Where What Receipt? is the better fit
You want to pay monthly, and not much
Wellybox's entry plan is $19 a month and only sold as a yearly subscription, so the smallest commitment is $228 up front. The cheapest Wellybox plan you can pay month to month is $59. What Receipt? Pro is $6.99 a month or $59 a year, and you can cancel from Settings whenever you like.
You have more than 50 receipts a month
Wellybox Basic covers 50 documents a month. Unlimited documents means the Business plan, at $49 a month billed yearly. What Receipt? Pro is unlimited at $6.99.
You want a free plan
What Receipt? is free for up to 30 receipts a month, with capture, automatic reading, vendor clean-up, categories, projects and CSV export, and no card on file. Wellybox has a trial, not a free plan.
Your spending is mixed
What Receipt? lets you tag each receipt with a project, such as a client, a side business or Personal, and exports totals by project as well as by category. Business and personal spending can live in one place without ending up in the same report.
You'd rather nothing left your computer
The Mac Privacy Edition is a one-time $29 purchase that reads, files and exports receipts entirely on your Mac. There's no account, no cloud copy and no subscription.
Where Wellybox is the better fit
- You manage receipts for clients. Wellybox's Enterprise plan has a clients dashboard, and every plan includes accountant access. What Receipt? is one person per account; your accountant gets a read-only link, not a login.
- Several people capture receipts. Wellybox includes multiple users; What Receipt? doesn't have shared accounts yet.
- You want direct accounting sync. Wellybox connects to QuickBooks, Xero and FreshBooks. What Receipt? exports files those apps import (see the guides for QuickBooks Online and Xero), but you do the import step.
- Your receipts live in Outlook. Wellybox scans Outlook directly. With What Receipt?, you forward Outlook receipts to your What Receipt? address (iCloud Mail, Yahoo and a few others can connect directly on Pro).
- You like sending receipts through WhatsApp. Wellybox has a WhatsApp bot. What Receipt? uses its own camera screen.
Switching from Wellybox
- In Wellybox, export your receipts (Excel or CSV for the data, PDF or a Google Drive or Dropbox export for the original files).
- Start a free What Receipt? account and drop the original files in. They're read again automatically, so vendors, dates and totals come back without retyping.
- Connect Gmail (Pro) and use Import a past year to pull in emailed receipts, or set up your forwarding address for other mailboxes.
- Before your Wellybox renewal date, check your plan's billing terms and cancel if you no longer need it. Yearly plans renew for a full year.

No. You capture paper receipts with the camera in the app, which works in your phone's browser and can take several receipts in a row.
Can my accountant see my receipts?
Yes, on every plan, including Free. Create an accountant link in Settings and send it to them: they see the receipts you choose, with totals, images and a CSV download, without needing an account. You can turn the link off at any time. Separate accountant logins aren't available.
