How to get Google Ads and Meta ads receipts for your books

Where Google Ads keeps statements, invoices and payment receipts, how to download Meta (Facebook and Instagram) ad receipts from Billing & payments, and how to get a full year of both.

Ad spend is one of the messier expenses to document. Neither platform charges you once a month like a normal subscription: both charge your card whenever your spending reaches a threshold, so a busy month can mean several charges. Google mostly doesn't email you a document at all, and Meta's receipts depend on the email address on the ad account. Here's where each keeps the paperwork and how to pull a year of it.

Short answer Google Ads: click the Billing icon and choose Documents. Filter by Issue date, tick the statements you want and choose Download selected. Statements for a month are ready by the 5th business day of the next month. Meta: go to Billing & payments, choose Payment activity, pick a date range, then use the Download menu and choose Download all transactions (PDF) for one receipt covering every charge. Meta's download works on desktop only.

What Google sends you, and when

What you get depends on how the account pays:

  • Automatic payments or manual payments (most advertisers). Google's help pages call these postpay and prepay. You get a monthly statement, plus a payment receipt for each charge. Google says it doesn't email or mail statements on these settings, so you have to download them from the account.
  • Monthly invoicing (credit terms). You get invoices, and Google emails them within 5 business days of the start of each month. They're also in your Google Ads account.

Statements and invoices for a month are available from the 5th business day of the following month. So September's statement is there by early October.

Why there are several charges a month

With automatic payments, Google charges you each time your costs reach your payment threshold, and again on the 1st of the month for anything left over. A card statement can show several Google Ads charges in one month. The monthly statement ties them together.

Downloading statements and invoices

  1. In your Google Ads account, click the Billing icon.
  2. Choose Documents. Google's help pages also refer to a Billing activity page, so the label may differ in your account.
  3. To narrow the list, choose + Add a filter, then Issue date, and select the date range.
  4. Tick the documents you want (or the box at the top to select all), then choose Download selected. They download as PDFs.

If nothing downloads, check that your browser isn't blocking pop-ups.

Payment receipts for individual charges

To match a single card charge, go to Summary in the Billing menu, open the card for the month, scroll to Payments and select the payment. A printable receipt opens in a new tab. Use your browser's print or save option to keep a PDF.

The Transactions page in the Billing menu lists costs, adjustments, promotions and taxes. It shows the last 3 months by default, and a dropdown changes the range.

What a Google Ads statement shows

A monthly statement shows your starting balance, new activity (your campaign costs), adjustments such as credits for overdelivery, and payments received. Taxes and fees appear where they apply.

Finding Google Ads emails

Because most statements aren't emailed, a Gmail search turns up less than you'd expect. To find what did arrive (payment and billing notices, or invoices on monthly invoicing), try from:google.com "Google Ads" (invoice OR statement OR receipt OR payment) after:2025/01/01 before:2026/01/01. For everything else, use the Documents page. More Gmail searches for receipts.

Meta ads (Facebook and Instagram)

What Meta sends you, and when

Meta ads on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and the Audience Network are billed together through your ad account. With a card or PayPal, Meta charges you when your costs reach your payment threshold and again on your monthly bill date for anything left over. Like Google, that can mean several charges a month, or a charge after your ads have stopped.

Meta says a receipt is sent to Billing & payments and to the email address associated with your ad account. If that's an old personal address, that's where your receipts are going.

Downloading Meta ad receipts

Meta's receipt downloads only work on a desktop computer. You need full control of the ad account if it's in a business portfolio, or admin permissions if it's managed in Ads Manager. Meta is also testing a new billing and payments experience, so some labels may differ in your account.

One charge:

  1. Go to Billing & payments in Meta Ads Manager.
  2. If you manage several ad accounts, pick the right one under Accounts.
  3. Click Payment activity in the left menu.
  4. Use the date menu to pick a range, find the charge and click Download under Action.

A whole period: follow the same steps, then open the Download menu and choose one of:

  • Download all transactions (PDF): a single receipt covering every charge in the range.
  • Download report (PDF): the billing report as a PDF.
  • Download report (CSV): the same report as a spreadsheet.

Matching a card charge to a receipt

Every Meta ad charge has a 10-character reference number. On your card statement it appears after FACEBK* or FACEBOOK INC. In Payment activity, click Reference number, enter it and click Search, then download that receipt. If your statement shows only part of the number, Meta suggests asking your bank for the full one. Matching by date and amount in Payment activity also works.

What a Meta ad receipt shows

Each receipt shows the amount, the billing reason, the campaigns that ran up the cost and their results. Meta notes that the clicks or impressions on a receipt can differ from what Ads Manager shows, because the receipt counts what you were charged for.

To change the name or bill-to address on receipts, edit your ad account information in Meta Business Suite. Meta says changes only apply to future receipts.

Finding Meta receipt emails

Meta's help pages don't list the address receipt emails come from, so keep the search loose: (facebook OR meta) ads receipt after:2025/01/01 before:2026/01/01. If that finds nothing, the receipts are probably going to whichever email is on the ad account.

Keeping ad spend tax-ready

  • Download a full year from each platform in January. Google's Documents page and Meta's Download all transactions (PDF) each give you one tidy set for your accountant.
  • Keep one ad account per business. Mixing a side business and your main business in one ad account makes the receipts hard to split later.
  • Point Meta's account email at an inbox you read. That's where Meta sends receipts.
  • Don't rely on the card statement. "FACEBK" and an amount, or a Google Ads charge partway through the month, says nothing about what it paid for.

Doing it with What Receipt?

Ad platforms are where emailed receipts help least, since Google rarely emails statements. Download the PDFs from each platform and drop them into What Receipt?, which reads the vendor, date, total and tax and files them with your other receipts. Meta receipts that do arrive by email come in automatically once Gmail is connected, or you can forward them to your personal What Receipt? address. Tag each one with the client or business it was for, and they leave in the same export as everything else.

Questions

How do I get a receipt from Google Ads?

Click the Billing icon and choose Documents to download monthly statements or invoices. For a single payment, go to Summary in the Billing menu, open the month and select the payment under Payments to get a printable receipt.

Why doesn't Google Ads email me invoices?

On automatic or manual payments, Google doesn't email or mail statements. You download them from the Documents page. Only accounts on monthly invoicing (credit terms) get invoices by email.

How do I download all my Facebook ad receipts at once?

On a desktop, go to Billing & payments, choose Payment activity, set the date range, open the Download menu and choose Download all transactions (PDF). You get one receipt covering every charge in that range.

Why was I charged several times in one month for ads?

Both Google and Meta charge your card each time your ad costs reach your payment threshold, and again at the end of the cycle for anything left over. Each charge has its own receipt, and Google's monthly statement brings them together.
