How to find Walmart receipts for expenses and taxes
Where Walmart keeps receipts for online orders and in-store purchases, how to look up a lost store receipt with your card, how to get a year's worth back, and what Walmart Business adds.
Walmart receipts come in two kinds. Online orders live in your account. Store purchases print on paper at the register, and the paper is usually gone by tax time. Walmart has ways to get both back, as long as you know which one you're dealing with.
Short answer Online orders: go to Account > Purchase History, open the order with View details and use the print icon. Store purchases show up in the same Purchase History if you paid with a card saved in your Walmart account, used Walmart Pay or scanned the receipt in the Walmart app. Lost a store receipt you paid for by card? The receipt lookup tool at
walmart.com/receipt-lookupfinds it from the store, date, total and the last four digits of your card, then lets you download it.
Online orders: pickup, delivery and shipping
Where to find the receipt
On Walmart.com, sign in and go to Account > Purchase History. Find the order, choose View details, then select the print icon near the top left. That's your receipt.
In the Walmart app, open Account > Purchase History and pick the order. Scroll down for the totals and payment information. Walmart treats the barcode at the bottom of the order as proof of purchase.
The emails
Walmart also emails you about online orders. Those emails are handy for finding an order date, but use the order page in Purchase History as your record. It has the totals and the payment method in one place.
In-store purchases
Getting store purchases into your account
Walmart can add store purchases to your online Purchase History, where you can view the items, start a return and print. There are three ways in:
- Pay with a card saved in your Walmart.com account. Walmart adds those store purchases automatically, and it also adds earlier store purchases made with saved cards in the last 12 months. Walmart's help says the name on the card must match the name on your account.
- Pay with Walmart Pay in the app. Those purchases appear in Purchase History.
- Scan the receipt. In the Walmart app, tap the barcode icon in the search bar and scan the barcode on your paper receipt.
If you'd rather store purchases not appear, there's a Store purchases toggle under Account > Communications & privacy. Walmart Pay purchases and scanned receipts still show up even with it turned off.
Looking up a lost store receipt
If the purchase isn't in your account and you've lost the paper, use Walmart's receipt lookup tool. It works for purchases paid with a debit or credit card. You'll need:
- the store's ZIP code, or its city and state
- the purchase date and the receipt total (check your bank or card statement for both)
- the card type and the last four digits of the card
Enter those, complete the CAPTCHA and select Lookup receipt. You can then download the receipt.
Paid with cash or another payment type? The lookup tool won't find it. Walmart's help points you to its chat support instead.
What a Walmart receipt shows
An online order's details page shows the items, the totals and the payment information. A store receipt, whether paper, scanned or from the lookup tool, is the register receipt: what you bought, the tax, the total and the card or payment used.
Walmart sells groceries, office supplies and household goods on the same receipt. If you buy for a business, that mix matters. More on that below.
Getting a whole year of Walmart receipts
Walmart doesn't offer a one-click "download all receipts" for personal accounts. Your options:
- Work through Purchase History. If you shop with a saved card or Walmart Pay, most of your year is already there, online and in-store. Open each order you need and print it to PDF.
- Search your email for the online orders. In Gmail,
from:walmart.com after:2025/01/01 before:2026/01/01covers a calendar year. More Gmail searches for receipts. - Use the receipt lookup tool for card purchases that never made it into your account. Your card statement gives you the date and total for each one.
Paper receipts from the register never reach your inbox, so email alone won't give you a complete year.
Walmart Business
If you buy for a company, Walmart Business (business.walmart.com) is a separate account built for it. For receipts it adds two useful things:
- A downloadable report. In Purchase History, select All Purchases, then Download. Choose a time period, tick the box if you want itemized data for each item, and download a CSV file. An admin can download it for the whole organization. A buyer can only download their own orders.
- Shared history. Admins can see everyone's orders. Buyers see their own.
Walmart's help notes a quirk: the order ID column in the CSV isn't formatted correctly when you open it in a spreadsheet. Format the column as a number with no decimals so it matches the order numbers in your account.
In stores, Walmart Business purchases appear in Purchase History when you check out with Walmart Pay from the Walmart Business app. The receipt lookup tool works the same way as on the consumer side.
Keeping Walmart receipts tax-ready
- Save a card in your account, or use Walmart Pay. It's the simplest way to make store receipts retrievable later.
- Split business and personal baskets. Ring them up as two transactions, ideally on two cards. One receipt with both is harder to explain.
- Photograph paper receipts the same day. Thermal paper fades. A digital copy is fine for the IRS as long as it's legible.
- Note what it was for. "Printer paper and toner, office" beats a bare total.
Doing it with What Receipt?
Photograph store receipts with What Receipt? before they fade. You can take several shots in a row at the checkout. Drop in PDFs printed from Purchase History or downloaded from the receipt lookup tool, too. Each one is read for vendor, date, total, tax and payment method and filed under a category. Tag business purchases to a project so they stay apart from personal ones. Online order emails can come in automatically: Pro connects to Gmail, and the free plan gives you a forwarding address for any mailbox.
Questions
How do I get a copy of a Walmart receipt?
For online orders, go to Account > Purchase History, choose View details on the order and use the print icon. For store purchases, check Purchase History first. If the purchase isn't there and you paid by card, use the receipt lookup tool at walmart.com/receipt-lookup.
Can I look up a Walmart receipt without the paper copy?
Yes, if you paid with a debit or credit card. The receipt lookup tool needs the store location, purchase date, receipt total, card type and the last four digits of the card. Cash purchases can't be found this way.
Why don't my in-store purchases show up in my Walmart account?
Store purchases appear when you pay with a card saved in your Walmart.com account (with a name that matches your account), pay with Walmart Pay, or scan the receipt in the Walmart app. Purchases paid any other way won't appear on their own.
Can I download all my Walmart purchases at once?
Not on a personal account. Walmart Business accounts can download a CSV report of purchases for a chosen time period from Purchase History.
