How to get Uber and Lyft receipts for expenses and taxes

Where Uber and Lyft keep your ride receipts, how to resend or download them, how to get a batch for a tax year, and how to stop business rides getting lost among personal ones.

Rideshare receipts are easy to lose. They arrive by email after every ride, they look the same as personal trips, and a late tip can produce a second receipt for the same ride. Here's where Uber and Lyft keep them, how to get a year's worth back, and a setup that keeps business rides separate from the start.

Short answer Both apps email a receipt after every ride and keep your full ride history in the app. Uber: open the trip in your activity and choose Receipt, where you can resend it or download a PDF. On the web, go to riders.uber.com/trips. Lyft: open Ride history in the app. Its Export option emails you a report with receipts for every ride you select.

Uber receipts

Where Uber sends them

Uber emails a receipt to your account's email address when a trip ends. If they're not arriving, check spam first, then check the email address in the app's account settings.

Finding a past trip's receipt

  • In the app: open the menu, go to your trip activity (called Activity in current versions and Your Trips in older ones), pick the trip and tap Receipt. At the bottom of the receipt you can resend the email or download a PDF.
  • On the web: sign in at riders.uber.com/trips, open the trip and choose View Receipt. From there you can print it, resend it or download it.
  • From the email itself: the receipt email has a Download PDF link.

Uber's own help articles describe these screens in slightly different words, so expect small differences in labels between app versions.

What an Uber receipt shows

The receipt breaks down the fare: base fare, booking fee, tolls and surcharges (sometimes grouped as one "tolls, surcharges, and fees" line), and any government taxes and fees. It shows the payment method and the trip route.

Tipped later? Tips can be added after a ride, and Uber notes that a trip can then have more than one receipt, with the latest receipt including the tip. Use that one so you don't record the ride twice or leave out the tip.

Getting a whole year of Uber receipts

There's no one-click "download all receipts" for personal accounts. Your options:

  1. Search your email. Every trip already sent you a receipt. In Gmail, from:uber.com subject:(trip OR receipt) after:2025/01/01 before:2026/01/01 covers a calendar year. More Gmail searches for receipts.
  2. Open trips one at a time at riders.uber.com and download each PDF. Fine for a handful.
  3. Request your data from Uber's privacy center. It gives you trip history (times, locations, distance), but it's a data file, not receipts. Use it as a checklist, not as proof.

If your company uses Uber for Business, admins can export trip reports as CSV and add a column that links each trip's receipt PDF.

Use a business profile

Uber lets you add a business profile alongside your personal one. Rides on that profile are charged to the payment method you choose, and their receipts go to your work email. You can also connect an expense tool such as SAP Concur, Expensify, Certify or Zoho Expense so receipts are filed automatically. Your company can't see rides on your personal profile.

Pick the right profile before you request the ride. That one habit does more to keep business rides separate than any clean-up afterwards.

Uber Eats

Uber Eats receipts live in your order history. In the app, open your orders, pick the order and choose View Receipt, where there's a PDF download. On the web at ubereats.com, open Your Orders and choose View Receipt. Uber emails the receipt when the payment is processed. That can be up to 24 hours after delivery, so a late-night order may show up the next day.

Lyft receipts

Where Lyft sends them

Lyft emails a receipt once the ride's payment is processed, which Lyft says happens within 24 hours of the ride.

Finding a past ride's receipt

In the app, open the menu or your profile and tap Ride history, then tap any ride to see its receipt. History goes back to 2014. A ride only appears once its payment has processed.

Lyft's help documentation covers ride history in the app only, so plan on using your phone for this.

Getting a whole year of Lyft receipts

Lyft has a built-in batch option. In Ride history, tap Export (top right on iPhone, or the download icon on Android), select the rides you want and tap Send report. You'll get a Ride Report email with receipts for every ride you selected.

That's the quickest way to round up a tax year. Select the business rides only and you have a ready-made set for your accountant.

What a Lyft receipt shows

The receipt itemizes the base rate, tolls, Lyft's service fee and third-party fees such as local rideshare taxes and airport fees. Tips can be added up to 72 hours after the ride's payment is processed. Cancellation fees don't show up in ride history.

Lyft business profiles

Like Uber, Lyft lets you add a business profile with its own payment method and forward its receipts to an expense tool. Lyft lists SAP Concur, Expensify, Certify, Coupa, Brex, Ramp, Rippling and others. Only rides taken on the business profile are forwarded. If you switch a ride from personal to business afterwards, Lyft says the receipt may not be resubmitted automatically, so send that one yourself.

Keeping rideshare receipts tax-ready

Ride receipts show the amount, date and route. What they don't show is why you took the ride, and for business travel that's the part the IRS cares about. A few habits cover it:

  • Choose the business profile before every work ride. It routes the receipt and keeps it out of your personal spending.
  • Note the purpose ("client meeting, Acme") when you file the receipt, while you still remember.
  • File the final receipt. If you tipped later, it's the latest one that's complete.
  • Keep the email or PDF, not just the card statement. A statement line shows "UBER *TRIP" and an amount, nothing more.

Doing it with What Receipt?

Uber and Lyft receipts arrive by email, so connecting Gmail to What Receipt? brings them in automatically. Each one is read for vendor, date, total and tax and filed alongside your other receipts. Import a past year catches up on a whole tax year at once. Put work rides in a Business project, add the purpose in the notes, and they leave in the same export as everything else.

Questions

How do I get an Uber receipt for a past trip?

In the Uber app, open your trip activity, choose the trip and tap Receipt. You can resend the email or download a PDF there. On a computer, sign in at riders.uber.com/trips, open the trip and choose View Receipt.

Can I download all my Uber receipts at once?

Not for personal accounts. Every trip emailed a receipt, so the fastest route is to search your inbox for Uber receipts in the date range you need. Uber for Business accounts can export trip reports as CSV with receipt links.

How do I get all my Lyft receipts for the year?

In the Lyft app, open Ride history, tap Export, select the rides and tap Send report. Lyft emails a Ride Report with receipts for every ride you selected.

Are Uber and Lyft rides tax deductible?

Business travel can be deductible. Commuting between home and your regular workplace generally isn't. Keep the receipt and note the business purpose of each ride, and ask a tax professional how it applies to you.

Snap a receipt or connect Gmail. What Receipt? reads it, files it by vendor, category and project, and exports it for your accountant.
