How to get Instacart receipts for expenses and taxes
Where Instacart keeps your order receipts, how to read the adjustments and refunds on them, how to round up a year of orders, and how Instacart Business exports receipts in bulk.
Instacart receipts are trickier than most. The total at checkout is an estimate, items get replaced or refunded while the shopper is in the store, and a tip changed after delivery can show up as a separate card charge. Here's where to find the final receipt, how to read it, and how to get a year's worth when you need them.
Short answer Instacart emails a copy of your full receipt once your delivery is complete. To find it later, in the app tap the Account icon, then Orders, pick the order and tap Receipt. On the website, click Your orders, pick the order and click Receipt. Instacart Business accounts can export receipt history as PDF and CSV in bulk.
Where Instacart sends receipts
Once your delivery is complete, Instacart emails you a copy of your full receipt. If they're not arriving, check your junk or spam folder, then the email address on your account.
Finding a past order's receipt
- In the app: tap the Account icon (the head and shoulders symbol), tap Orders and pick the order. Tap your delivery address and payment information, then tap Receipt.
- On the website: go to instacart.com, click Your orders, pick the order and click Receipt on the left of the screen.
Instacart's help pages for some partner store sites describe a slightly different layout: you open the menu (three lines in the upper left), choose Your orders, click View order detail and then View Receipt. Labels vary by app version and by store site.
If one order came from several stores, each store has its own tab on the order page. Instacart says View receipt on any tab shows a receipt for the whole order, all stores included.
What an Instacart receipt shows
The final receipt can differ from the estimate you saw at checkout. Instacart splits it into two parts:
- Adjustments (top): refunds for out-of-stock items and item problems such as missing or damaged items. Not Charged next to an item means the shopper refunded it before checkout, so you were never billed for it.
- Charges (bottom): what you were actually charged. Original Charge is what Instacart charged when the order completed. Additional Charge covers items you added afterwards. Adjustment Charge covers a final price that came in higher, such as a pricier replacement or a heavier weighted item. Refund for order issue is a refund processed after the order completed. Total Charged is the final figure.
Use Total Charged as the amount you record. It matches what actually left your card, after refunds.
Instacart's fee page covers what else can appear: a delivery fee, a service fee (which isn't a tip and doesn't go to the shopper), and sometimes priority, long-distance, bag, bottle deposit or regulatory fees. Taxes are included in the order total on the receipt Instacart emails when the order is complete. Depending on where you live, the delivery or service fee may be taxed too.
Two things that can make your card statement look different from the receipt:
- Tips changed after delivery may appear as a separate charge on your card.
- Temporary authorization holds can be a bit higher than the estimate. They adjust once the order is complete.
Getting a whole year of Instacart receipts
Instacart's help center doesn't describe a bulk receipt export for personal accounts. Your options:
- Search your email. Every completed delivery emailed a receipt. In Gmail,
from:instacart.com after:2025/01/01 before:2026/01/01covers a calendar year. Addreceiptto the search if order-update emails get in the way. More Gmail searches for receipts. - Open orders one at a time under Your orders. Fine for a handful. The receipt page also shows refunds processed after the order completed.
If you buy supplies for a business on Instacart regularly, an Instacart Business account is worth a look for the export alone.
Instacart Business
Instacart Business is a free business account for customers in the US and Canada. It keeps business purchases separate from personal ones. Instacart lists team controls (spend limits, order approvals), invoicing as a payment option, and bulk receipt exports and scheduled reports. Sign up at instacart.com/business with a business email. You can import details from your personal profile or start a separate account.
To export receipts from a business account:
- In the app: tap the Account icon, tap Orders under your business name, then the download icon. Choose a date range, user roles and files, then tap Export data. You get an email with the files.
- On the website: open the menu (three lines, upper left), click Your orders, then Export. Fill in the same details and click Export.
Admins can also export the whole team's receipts as PDF or CSV from the Dashboard. Pick a month and use Export, and a download link arrives by email. For recurring reports, admins can set up Scheduled Exports under Business Settings > Reports.
Doing it with What Receipt?
Instacart emails your receipt when a delivery is complete, so connecting Gmail to What Receipt? (a Pro feature) brings it in automatically. Each one is read for vendor, date, total and tax and filed with your other receipts. Import a past year catches up on a whole tax year at once. If a refund came later, check the total against Total Charged on Instacart's receipt page. Put business supply runs in a Business project so they stay out of your household spending.
Questions
How do I get a receipt for a past Instacart order?
In the app, tap the Account icon, tap Orders, pick the order and tap Receipt. On the website, click Your orders, pick the order and click Receipt.
Why is my Instacart receipt different from my checkout total?
Checkout shows an estimate. Replacements, weighted items, out-of-stock refunds and items added later change the final amount. The receipt's Total Charged line shows what you actually paid after all charges and refunds.
Can I download all my Instacart receipts at once?
Instacart Business accounts can export receipt history as PDF and CSV for a date range. For personal accounts, Instacart doesn't document a bulk export, so search your inbox for Instacart receipt emails in the date range you need.
Does an Instacart receipt include sales tax?
Yes. Instacart says taxes are included in the order total on the receipt it emails when your order is complete. Depending on your location, the delivery or service fee may be taxed as well.
