How to find Home Depot and Lowe's receipts for expenses and taxes

If you're a contractor, a landlord or in the middle of a renovation, home improvement receipts are the ones that matter most at tax time. They're also the ones most likely to end up crumpled in a truck. Home Depot and Lowe's both keep digital copies, but only for purchases they can tie to your account. Here's how each one works and how to set things up so every receipt is there when you need it.

Short answer Home Depot: sign in at homedepot.com or in the app and open Purchase History. Purchases made with a debit or credit card saved to your account appear there, and View Receipt shows an image of the original register receipt. Add a card and its purchases from the last 24 months show up. Pro Xtra members can also Export purchase history as a CSV. Lowe's: open Purchase History on Lowes.com or in the Lowe's app. Sign in when you order online, and scan your Member ID or give your phone number at the register, so purchases are tied to your MyLowe's account.

Home Depot receipts

Finding an in-store receipt

  1. Sign in on homedepot.com or in the Home Depot app and go to Purchase History.
  2. Purchases made with credit or debit cards linked to your account appear there. Pick the one you need.
  3. In the purchase details, select View Receipt to see an image of the original register receipt.

Not there? Add the card

If a purchase is missing, the card probably isn't linked. On homedepot.com, go to Cards & Accounts, choose Add Credit Card and enter the full card number, expiration date and security code. Once it's added, purchases made with that card in the last 24 months appear in Purchase History.

Two catches from Home Depot's help:

  • Mobile wallets don't link. Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay use a different card number, so those purchases don't appear. The exception: Pro Xtra members who entered their phone number at checkout.
  • A card can only be linked to one Home Depot account. Add it to a new account and the card, with its purchase history, moves over from the old one.

Lost receipt that isn't in your account

Go to the Service Department at a Home Depot store with the physical card and a valid ID. Bring the store where you bought it, the purchase date (which can differ from the date on your statement), the exact amount and a description of the items.

How far back that works depends on how you paid:

  • Debit, credit, Home Depot credit card or checking account: generally up to 24 months.
  • Gift card or store credit: up to 24 months, with the original card present.
  • Cash: can't be reprinted, unless you're a Pro Xtra member and entered your phone number at checkout. Then the receipt is in your Purchase History.

Pro Xtra: purchase tracking for contractors

Pro Xtra is Home Depot's loyalty program for pros, and it's the most useful setup for receipts:

  • Receipts are saved for up to two years, including cash purchases if you give your phone number at checkout.
  • Purchase History is under the header drop-down or My Account. You can also choose View All Purchases from the Recent Purchases section.
  • Filter by date, item number and more. Home Depot's Pro pages describe tracking your team's purchases by date and job name.
  • See Details on a purchase shows the product, order and receipt. You can select receipts to download.
  • Export downloads your purchase history as a CSV file. A QuickBooks Export option syncs spending to QuickBooks.

If you buy for several jobs, the job name is the field to use. It turns a stack of receipts into a list you can total per job.

Lowe's receipts

Where to find them

Sign in to your MyLowe's Rewards account on Lowes.com or in the Lowe's app and open Purchase History. That's where Lowe's keeps your orders and purchases.

Lowe's ties an in-store purchase to your account, for rewards points, when you identify yourself at checkout: scan your Member ID or use Scan to Pay in the Lowe's app, or give the phone number on your account. Online orders count when you're signed in. Purchases you didn't identify at the register can be added afterwards, within limits (below).

Lowe's help pages don't spell out how far back Purchase History goes, which in-store purchases appear there, or exactly which screens offer a printable copy. Check your own account and save copies while purchases are recent.

Forgot to scan your Member ID?

In Purchase History, the Add Existing Receipt button lets you enter the details from a printed in-store receipt. Lowe's describes it as a way to claim rewards points, with limits: within 45 days of the purchase, up to three receipts a day, and only for purchases after you enrolled. Keep the paper receipt (or a photo of it) as your record either way.

Lost receipt

For returns, Lowe's says it can try to validate a purchase from a receipt, an order number, the payment card or digital wallet you used, your phone number or your MyLowe's Rewards or MyLowe's Pro Rewards account. That helps with a return. Lowe's doesn't promise a reprint for your records, so don't rely on it for expenses.

MyLowe's Pro Rewards: for business purchases

MyLowe's Pro Rewards is Lowe's program for pros. Its business tools include:

  • Spend Reports and Analytics to monitor purchase orders and spending patterns.
  • Projects to manage each job in one place.
  • Purchase Authorization so crew members can buy on your account.
  • Spend reports and itemized billing by job or client, plus QuickBooks and Quicken integration, according to Lowe's 2026 announcement for small and medium-size pros.

Lowe's lets you keep a MyLowe's Rewards account for personal purchases and a MyLowe's Pro Rewards account for business purchases, as long as each uses a different email address. That split does a lot of the sorting for you.

What these receipts show

Both stores' register receipts show what you bought, the tax, the total and how you paid. Home Depot's View Receipt is an image of that original receipt. Item-level detail matters with home improvement purchases: the IRS treats repairs and improvements differently, and your accountant will want to know which is which.

Getting a whole year of receipts

  1. Home Depot with Pro Xtra: use Export in Purchase History for a CSV of the year, and download the receipts you need.
  2. Home Depot without Pro Xtra: add every card you use to Cards & Accounts. The last 24 months of purchases on those cards appear, and you can open each receipt.
  3. Lowe's: work through Purchase History. If you're a Pro, the spend reports can break the year down by job.
  4. Search your email for online orders and any receipts the stores emailed you. In Gmail, from:(homedepot.com OR lowes.com) after:2025/01/01 before:2026/01/01 covers a calendar year. More Gmail searches for receipts.
  5. Check your card statement for anything still missing, and use the Home Depot store lookup within 24 months.

Keeping home improvement receipts tax-ready

  • Always identify yourself at checkout. At Home Depot, a saved card or a Pro Xtra phone number. At Lowe's, your Member ID or phone number. That one habit makes almost every receipt retrievable.
  • Don't pay by phone wallet at Home Depot unless you're a Pro Xtra member who gives a phone number. Otherwise the purchase won't show up online.
  • Tag each purchase to a job while you still remember which one it was for.
  • Keep receipts for property improvements longer than usual. They can affect your cost basis when you sell. See how long to keep receipts.

Doing it with What Receipt?

Snap Home Depot and Lowe's receipts on the job site. The camera takes several shots in a row, so a day's runs take a minute. Drop in receipts downloaded from Purchase History, too. Each one is read for vendor, date, total, tax and payment method and filed under a category that learns from your corrections. Put each job or property in its own project and every receipt for it lands in one place, ready for the CSV export. Emailed receipts and online orders can come in automatically: Pro connects to Gmail, and the free plan gives you a forwarding address for any mailbox.

Questions

How do I get a copy of a Home Depot receipt?

Sign in on homedepot.com or in the app, open Purchase History, pick the purchase and select View Receipt. If it's missing, add the card you paid with on the Cards & Accounts page. Purchases with that card from the last 24 months then appear.

Can Home Depot find a receipt if I paid cash?

Generally no. The exception is Pro Xtra: if you're a member and entered your phone number at checkout, the receipt is in your Purchase History.

How do I export my Home Depot purchase history?

Pro Xtra members can select Export in Purchase History to download a CSV file, or use QuickBooks Export to sync spending to QuickBooks.

How do I find my Lowe's purchase history?

Sign in on Lowes.com or in the Lowe's app and open Purchase History. To tie in-store purchases to your account, scan your Member ID or give the phone number on your account at checkout. If you forgot, Add Existing Receipt in Purchase History accepts a printed receipt within 45 days.

Can I keep business and personal Lowe's purchases separate?

Yes. Lowe's allows a MyLowe's Rewards account for personal purchases and a MyLowe's Pro Rewards account for business purchases, each with its own email address.
