How to find Costco receipts for expenses and taxes

Costco is one of the easier stores to get receipts back from. Every warehouse purchase is tied to your membership card, so Costco keeps a copy for you. There are a few gaps and a two-year limit, though. Here's where to look and what to do about the gaps.

Short answer Sign in at Costco.com and select Orders & Returns. Under Orders & Purchases, the In-Warehouse tab shows receipts for warehouse purchases for up to two years. Costco.com orders are on the same page: View Order Details > Print Invoice gives you the invoice. Your membership must be linked to your Costco.com account. The Costco app shows the same online and warehouse receipts.

Link your membership first

Costco can only show warehouse receipts once your membership is verified and linked to your Costco.com account. If you don't have an account, create one on Costco.com and link your membership number.

You only see purchase history for the membership linked to the account you're signed in to. If you have more than one membership, say a personal one and a business one, sign in to the account linked to the membership you shopped on.

Finding a past warehouse receipt

• On the web: sign in at Costco.com and select Orders & Returns in the upper right corner. Under Orders & Purchases, choose the In-Warehouse tab. Find the purchase, select View Receipt, then Print Receipt.
• In the Costco app: the app shows both online and in-warehouse purchases and their receipts. Labels in the app don't always match the website word for word.

Receipts appear in six-month increments. Use the Showing dropdown to move back through up to two years of warehouse purchases. A new purchase can take up to 24 hours to appear.

Costco's own help articles name these screens slightly differently ("Orders & Returns" in one, "Orders & Purchases" in another), so expect small differences.

Older than two years

For a warehouse receipt more than two years old, go to the membership counter at your local warehouse. Bring photo ID, your membership number and the purchase date, and they can print a copy.

What's not in warehouse purchase history

Costco lists several kinds of purchases that don't show up on the In-Warehouse tab:

• Gas bought before September 30, 2024. Gas purchases on or after that date are included.
• Food Court
• Optical
• Travel
• Instacart orders
• Pharmacy (it appears on receipts as "Universal")

For these, Costco points you to your local warehouse or Customer Service. For anything you'll expense regularly, such as fuel for a work vehicle, keep or photograph the paper receipt as a backup.

Costco.com orders

Go to Costco.com, select Orders & Returns and sign in. Choose the date range, select View Order Details next to the order and select Print Invoice.

Costco.com orders from the last two years are available online, shown in three-month increments. For anything older, or if you can't print it yourself, Costco says to contact them and they'll email a copy to the "Bill To" email address used on the order.

What a Costco receipt shows

A warehouse receipt is the register receipt: what you bought, the tax, the total and how you paid. A Costco.com invoice covers one online order and its charges.

Costco receipts tend to be long and mixed: a box of printer paper next to a rotisserie chicken. That matters if you claim any of it as a business expense.

Getting a whole year of Costco receipts

There's no bulk download. Your options:

1. Step through the In-Warehouse tab six months at a time and print each receipt you need to PDF. With the two-year limit, do this before the receipts drop off, not two years later.
2. Search your email for Costco.com orders. In Gmail, from:costco.com after:2025/01/01 before:2026/01/01 covers a calendar year. More Gmail searches for receipts. Warehouse purchases aren't in your inbox, so this only covers online orders.
3. Use your card statement as a checklist to make sure you haven't missed a trip.

Costco Business Center

If you order through Costco Business Center at CostcoBusinessDelivery.com, the invoices are kept separately from Costco.com. Sign in there and select Orders & Purchases. You can pick a six-month range and view orders up to three years old, including orders placed by phone. If an invoice is missing, Costco Business Center's help says to call Member Services and request one.

Costco's warehouse-receipt help doesn't single out Business memberships. Warehouse receipts follow whichever membership is linked to the Costco.com account you sign in to.

Keeping Costco receipts tax-ready

• Ring up business purchases separately. Two transactions, ideally on two cards, are far easier to explain than one long mixed receipt.
• Save receipts within two years. After that you're back to the membership counter.
• Back up what Costco doesn't keep online. Gas before late 2024, Food Court, Optical and Travel need their own copy.
• Note what it was for. "Office snacks for client workshop" tells your accountant what the total doesn't.

Doing it with What Receipt?

Print Costco receipts to PDF from Orders & Returns and drop them into What Receipt?, or photograph paper receipts, such as gas, as you get them. The camera takes several shots in a row, so a stack goes quickly. Each receipt is read for vendor, date, total, tax and payment method and filed under a category. Tag business runs to a project so they stay apart from household shopping. Costco.com order emails can come in automatically: Pro connects to Gmail, and the free plan gives you a forwarding address for any mailbox.
