How to get Best Buy receipts for expenses, warranties and taxes
Where Best Buy keeps receipts for online orders, how a My Best Buy account lets the store look up an in-store receipt, what Best Buy can't retrieve, and how Best Buy Business accounts get invoices.
A Best Buy receipt tends to matter long after the purchase. It's proof for a laptop you're depreciating, a warranty claim, or a return. Online orders are easy to reprint. In-store purchases depend on how you paid and whether your My Best Buy account was on the sale. Here's where to look, and what Best Buy can't recover.
Short answer Online orders: sign in at bestbuy.com, open Orders, find the order and select See details & receipt, then Print receipt. In-store purchases: take the card you paid with to any Best Buy customer service counter, or give them the phone number, email or member ID on your My Best Buy account. You can also call 1-888-BEST BUY. Best Buy can't retrieve cash or check purchases made without a My Best Buy account, or anything older than ten years.
Online orders
Finding a past order's receipt
- Sign in at bestbuy.com and select Orders at the top of the site.
- You'll see a list of recent orders. Use the drop-down to show orders by date.
- Find the order and select See details & receipt.
- Choose Print receipt. (There's also Print gift receipt, but for expenses you want the regular one.) Most browsers let you save the print as a PDF.
Bought as a guest?
Use Best Buy's guest order lookup. You'll need the order number from your confirmation email plus the last name and phone number you used on the order.
In-store purchases
Best Buy keeps store receipts on file, but you get them through a person, not a download.
- At the store: go to the customer service counter at any Best Buy.
- If you paid by credit card, bring the card you used. They'll look up the receipt with it.
- If you're a My Best Buy member, they can look it up by your phone number, email address or member ID.
- By phone: call 1-888-BEST BUY (1-888-237-8289) and ask for a copy of your store receipt.
What Best Buy can't find. Best Buy says it can't retrieve receipts for purchases paid in cash or check if you're not a My Best Buy member, or for purchases made more than ten years ago.
Link store purchases to My Best Buy
Best Buy says your My Best Buy account shows in-store purchases alongside online orders, as long as the purchase was linked to you. To link a store purchase, give your My Best Buy member ID at the register (or be signed in when you buy online). Labels on the account pages change from time to time. If a store purchase shows in your account without a printable receipt, the counter or the phone line can still produce one.
For cash purchases especially, that link is the difference between "we can't find it" and a quick lookup.
Getting a whole year of Best Buy receipts
There's no bulk receipt download for consumer accounts. Your options:
- Search your email. Online orders come with an order confirmation email. In Gmail,
from:bestbuy.com after:2025/01/01 before:2026/01/01covers a calendar year. Addsubject:(order OR receipt)to cut out the promotions. More Gmail searches for receipts. - Print receipts from Orders. Filter by date, then open each order's See details & receipt. Fine for a handful of purchases.
- Ask for store receipts. For in-store business purchases, a customer service visit or a call can recover receipts linked to your card or member account.
Best Buy Business accounts
If your company has a Best Buy Business Advantage account, Best Buy says invoices are on the Account Overview screen, where you can review and print them, and order history is on your Purchases page. You can also pay the account online there.
Buying for a tax-exempt organization? Best Buy's Tax Exempt Customer Program requires a My Best Buy account or a Best Buy Business account, and each employee who buys needs their own tax-exempt account number. At checkout, signed-in members with a valid number see an option to apply it.
Keeping Best Buy receipts tax-ready
- Keep receipts for as long as you own the item. Equipment you depreciate, and anything with a warranty, needs the receipt for years, not months. See how long to keep receipts.
- Separate the protection plan. If you bought a protection plan with the item, it may be on the same receipt. Note it separately, since it may be categorized differently from the hardware.
- Use your member account for business buys. It's the only way a cash purchase stays recoverable.
- Save the PDF, not just the email. Order emails can be summaries. The printed receipt from See details & receipt is the full record.
Doing it with What Receipt?
Drop in the receipt PDF from your Best Buy order, or snap the paper receipt at the register. What Receipt? reads the vendor, date, total, tax and payment method and files it by category and project. Order emails can come in by forwarding them to your What Receipt? address, or automatically with Gmail on Pro. Put work equipment in a Business project and add a note about what it's for.
